Friends of Morley Park (FoMP) has been formed
Atkinson Morley Hospital (AMH) closed in 2003 and the Wolfson Centre in 2011. Berkeley Homes purchased both sites. The land occupied by AMH included 17 acres designated as Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) and forms Morley Park. It comprises an area of woodland designated a site of Importance for Nature Conservation, an ecological area, playing fields and a Sports pavilion. Access is from Cottenham Park Road and Copse Hill.
The Ursuline High School (UHS) will be granted a 99 year lease for the playing fields and pavilion. The Council will have responsibility for the management of the rest of the park.
Opening of the Park to the public has been seriously delayed. Current issues include problems with Japanese Knotweed and with lack of clarity about public access to the park. Expectations of RAWW are that the public will have access to all parts of the park during standard park hours except the playing fields when being used by UHS. It is hoped the Park will open in summer 2018.
