Merton Council is planning to implement a new scheme with all households having 2 large wheelie bins.
The wheelie bins will be for general waste & recycling paper and card, also a box for plastics, glass and cans plus a food waste caddie. All collected fortnightly apart from the food caddie.
The views of local residents were invited by RAWW and indicate a very high level of unpopularity and dissatisfaction, with particular problems of the storage of wheelies by terraced houses with small front gardens and maisonettes/flats, the impact on the environment of the local area, difficulties moving bins and their blocking pavements and the lack of local consultation. The scheme has been accepted by Council and the next stage is the ‘fine-tuning’. RAWW has raised issues regarding specific requirements for implementation at this stage, please click here for details of this.
